AUBURN — A Maine boxer who was once considered a rising star in the sport and is the son of a former world champion has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor drug charge.
The Sun Journal reports that Steven Gamache pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a scheduled drug and was fined $400 in Androscoggin County Superior Court on Monday.
Authorities say during a routine traffic stop in Auburn in November 2012, an officer found the 30-year-old Lewiston native in possession of two hydrocodone pills for which he did not have a prescription.
Gamache told officers a co-worker gave him the pills to treat a medical condition.
Gamache was undefeated at the time of his arrest. His father is Joey Gamache, a former World Boxing Association lightweight and super featherweight world champion.
