Portland kids win free throw contest

Portland’s Helena Bolduc and Isabel Dawson won their respective age divisions at Sunday’s Elks Hoop Shoot at McAuley High School. Bolduc is the girls’ 10 and 11 age bracket winner, while Dawson, a two-time national finalist, won the girls’ 12 and 13 division. Bolduc and Dawson advance to the district shoot-off Sunday in Rockland.

Swish-Out Cancer Challenge upcoming

The 20th annual Dr. Noel Paradise Memorial Swish-Out and Junior Swish-Out Childhood Cancer Challenge will be held Sunday, Jan. 26 at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham. The tournament is a three-on-three, co-ed, double elimination event open to adults 18 and older. The entry is fee is $100 per team and all funds raised go directly to the Maine Children’s Cancer Program. There will also be a Junior Swish-Out open to middle school students. Entry fee is $75.
