BRUNSWICK — Alfred A. Marquis, 83, of Brunswick, died Jan. 16 at Winship Green in Bath.

He was born Nov. 15, 1930 in Brunswick, a son of John B. and Exilia Marquis Sr. He attended Brunswick schools and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.

Marquis was a professional boxer. He started boxing at age 14 and fought during his time in the Marine Corps, holding an impressive record of wins.

Marquis also was employed during the 1960s and early 1970s as a tour bus operator for Brunswick Transportation.

He was a longtime communicant of St. John’s Church of Brunswick, his church family and his faith were major parts of his life. In addition, he was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus in Brunswick and a member of the Brunswick Elks Lodge.

Marquis loved attending family reunions and caring for his animals. His dog, Precious, a Yorkshire terrier, was well known in the community and even had her picture in a local newspaper. He enjoyed walking and sitting in the park with her in Brunswick.

He is survived by a daughter, Robyn J. Fink, of Brunswick; grandson, Benjamin Fink, of Scarborough; brother, Donald Marquis; and sister, Marcelle Corthell, of Portland.

Visiting hours were held Jan. 20 at Brackett Funeral Home, Brunswick. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Jan. 21, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Brunswick. Spring interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery.
