BOSTON — Oscar winner Meryl Streep will speak at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell in two weeks to raise money for two new scholarships.

Tickets starting at $30 each will go toward scholarship funds designated for two extraordinary English majors at the university.

The event will be held at the Tsongas arena, which holds up to 7,000 people.

It is expected to raise more than $100,000.

Last year author Stephen King’s lecture raised approximately $100,000 for a different scholarship fund including King’s speaker fee, which he donated.

The university is hoping to make this speaker series an annual event.
