Kaelyn Woods of Gray-New Gloucester and Braden Becker of Yarmouth won the Sassi Memorial Classical Nordic ski races Saturday at Black Mountain in Rumford.
Woods, a sophomore, covered the 5-kilometer course in 16 minutes, 3 seconds to prevail over a field of 185 girls from all over Maine. Hadley Moreau of Falmouth, a home-schooled student, was second in 16:09 followed by Sara Wade of Mt. Blue, Sarah Doak of Caribou and Hannah Streinz of Katahdin.
Becker, a senior, finished the same course in 12:48 to beat a field of 228 boys. Portland High senior Ben Allen was second in 13:03 followed by Marcello DeLuca of Gould Academy, Daniel Streinz of Katahdin and Sam Wood of Mt. Ararat.
Skiers from 38 schools took part in the event. Yarmouth won the girls team title with 55 points to 98 for Mt. Blue, 103 for Falmouth and 122 for Merriconeag. Gould won the boys team title with 37 points to 46 for Yarmouth, 78 for Maranacook and 96 for Merriconeag.
