Former Falmouth Town Councilor Cathy Breen is running for the Maine Senate seat now held by Dick Woodbury of Yarmouth.
Woodbury, an independent, has announced he will not seek re-election.
Breen is a Democrat. She was a member of the Falmouth Town Council from 2005-2011 and was chairwoman of the council twice.
The District 25 seat held by Woodbury includes Gray, Falmouth, Yarmouth, Cumberland, part of Westbrook, Chebeague Island and Long Island.
Yarmouth Town Council Chairman Steve Woods announced last week that he also is seeking the District 25 Senate seat as a Democrat.
