BURLINGTON, Vt. — Sandro Carissimo scored 20 points with four 3-pointers and seven assists as Vermont pounded Maine 92-65 on Tuesday, holding onto a piece of the conference lead.

Maine battled with the Catamounts (15-9, 9-1 America East) for most of the first half until a 17-4 run – which featured a 3-pointer by Clancy Rugg and two by Carissimo – snapped a tie at 26 and put Vermont up 43-30. Vermont scored 51 by halftime.

The Catamounts made 38 of 63 shots, including 7 of 11 from 3-point range with Rugg scoring 15 points.

Maine (5-17, 3-7) made only four field goals in the final 9:19 of the first half.

Zarko Valjarevic led the Black Bears with 19 points, Kilian Cato added 15.

Vermont blocked 10 shots, with Ethan O’Day and Dre Wills swatting four each. The Catamounts cleared the bench, with 13 players checking in and 12 scoring.

 

BATES 71, UM-FARMINGTON 61: Bates (11-9) rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to defeat host University of Maine-Farmington (8-11).

Trailing 31-21 at halftime, the Bobcats opened the second half with a 9-2 spurt. Their first lead, 38-37, came with 13:22 remaining. The Beavers were within three with four minutes left, but the Bobcats made 7 of 8 free throws in the final minute to stretch their lead.

Junior Graham Safford led Bates with 15 points and eight rebounds. Adam Philpott added 12 points, and Luke Matarazzo had five assists, four steals and 11 points.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 61, WENTWORTH 22: Lauren Hayden’s layup with 2:25 left in overtime gave UNE (18-2, 12-1 CCC) a 55-54 lead over the Leopards (7-12, 4-9) in Boston.

After a pair of missed Wentworth free throws, Hayden fed Kelly Coleman for another field goal from inside the paint and a 57-54 lead with 49 seconds left. The Nor’easters put the game away with successful free throws while the Leopards missed their final two shots.

UNE led 48-42 after Alanna Vose converted a foul shot with 18 seconds left in regulation. But Carly Rogers sank a jumper with 11 seconds left to cut the lead to four. Rachel Camara then stole the ball for a layup to cut the lead to two with seven seconds left before Rogers took advantage of a turnover to drain a jumper and tie the game with four seconds left in regulation.

Hayden finished with 14 points and 13 rebounds for New England. Coleman added 11 points and Megan DeRaps 10. Rogers netted 16 for Wentworth, Kendra Kerr 10 and Camara 10.

 

SOUTHERN MAINE 55, COLBY 32: Rebecca Knight scored 10 points to pace Southern Maine (13-6) to victory over Colby (6-14) at Gorham.

The Huskies ended the first half with a 17-5 run over the final nine minutes to carry a 31-17 lead into halftime. Stephanie Gallagher made two 3-pointers during that stretch and Taylor Flood ended the first half with a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Carylanne Wolfington led the Mules with 13 points.
