NAPLES — Tiana-Jo Carter made the first two shots of the game to reach her 1,000th career point and start Lake Region on its way to a 58-44 victory over Poland on Tuesday night in a girls’ basketball game.

Carter was just three points short of the milestone going into the game and finished with 20 points. The senior also collected 15 rebounds and has well over 1,400 career rebounds.

The Lakers (16-1) started strong and led 32-20 by halftime. Sarah Hancock finished with 11 points, and Jordan Turner grabbed nine rebounds to go along with seven points.

As a team the Lakers were 11 for 11 at the free-throw line.

The Knights (9-8) were led by Emily Bolduc, who scored 24 points.

SOUTH PORTLAND 49, CHEVERUS 46: Bri Maloney scored 20 points and led the Red Riots (14-3) in a come-from-behind victory over Cheverus (12-5) at South Portland.

The Red Riots were trailing 22-6 early in the second quarter when Maloney began a 16-point scoring flurry that lasted through the third quarter and resulted in a 37-35 lead for the Riots.

Lydia Henderson scored the final three points with a field goal and a free throw to put South Portland on top.

The Stags got 17 points from Jess Willerson and 13 from Cassidy Grover.

 

WAYNFLETE 73, GREATER PORTLAND CHRISITAN 25: Helen Gray-Bauer scored 17 of her game-high 23 points in the first quarter when the Flyers (11-6) built an insurmountable lead against the visiting Lions (5-12) at Portland.

Ali Pope added 12 points, Dana Pierce had nine points, and Juliana Harwood finished with seven assists, six steals and six rebounds for the Flyers, who led 32-2 after one quarter.

Jessica Smith had 10 points to pace the Lions.

 

FRYEBURG ACADEMY 48, YORK 45: Alexis L’Heureux-Carland scored six of her eight points and McKenna Gerchman scored all of her five in the fourth quarter as the host Raiders (10-7) held off the Wildcats (11-5) down the stretch.

Skye Dole led Fryeburg with 15 points and Julia Quinn scored 10.

Reilly Smedley scored 11 for York.

WINDHAM 46, WESTBROOK 31: Haley Batchelder finished with 17 points, and Sadie Nelson and Lonnie Staten added eight points each to lead the Eagles (11-6) past the Blue Blazes (4-13) at Westbrook.

Alisha Aube and Alexis Redmond finished with 11 points each for Westbrook.

 

KENTS HILL 50, NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 29: Sara Grenier scored 11 of her 25 points in the second quarter when the Huskies (9-4) outscored the Panthers (6-10) 21-5 to pull away at Yarmouth.

Charlotte Esancy had 13 points and Hannah Carr added 11 for NYA.

THORNTON ACADEMY 39, SCARBOROUGH 34: Bailey Adams scored 18 points for the Red Storm (7-10) in a losing effort against visiting Thornton Academy (15-2) .

Scarborough led 27-24 after three quarters, but the Trojans pulled ahead in the fourth period on 7-of-8 shooting at the foul line.

Abby Strickland scored nine points to led the Trojans.

 

PORTLAND 72, BIDDEFORD 35: Brianna Holdren and Kate Johnson had 13 points apiece, and the visiting Bulldogs (13-4) built a 38-15 lead in the first half against the Tigers (3-14).

Elizabeth Donato added 12 points and Cierra Burnham had 11 for the Bulldogs, who scored 19 points in each of the first two quarters and put together a 21-8 run in the fourth.

The Tigers were led by Bailey Cote with 10 points, Kendra Cote with eight, Brittany Roy with seven and Carissa Gelinas with eight.

 

MASSABESIC 55, NOBLE 30: Emma Desrochers scored 20 points as the Mustangs (2-15) defeated the Knights (0-17) at Waterboro.

The Mustangs finished the first half with a 10-0 run and carried a 26-15 lead into the break.

Karlie Pike finished with 11 points for Massabesic and Jolena Lampron scored 10.

Taylor Mallett was Noble’s high scorer with 11.

 

SANFORD 51, MARSHWOOD 29: Grace Riley, Hannah Howes and Shelby Paiement each had a 3-pointer as the Spartans (8-9) outscored the Hawks (7-10) 15-2 during the second quarter to open a 19-11 halftime lead in Sanford.

Morgan Fogg scored 15 for Sanford and Riley 12. Megan McLean’s 10 led the Hawks.

 

CAPE ELIZABETH 37, FALMOUTH 34: Hannah Sawyer and Kate Miklivic scored 10 each as the capers (9-8) topped the Yachtsmen (5-12) in Falmouth.

Adelaide Cook’s nine points led Falmouth.

 

GORHAM 59, BONNY EAGLE 33: Emily Esposito scored 22 of her 29 points in the first half, leading the Rams (12-5) to a 31-15 halftime lead over the Scots (5-12) at Standish.

Kristen Curley added 12 points for Gorham, including nine in the first half.

 

LEWISTON 54, MT. ARARAT 53: Kristina Blais finished with 17 points, including three 3-pointers in the last few minutes of the game to help the Blue Devils (5-12) edge the Eagles (3-14) at Lewiston.

Laurianne Murphy also finished with 17 points, including five 3-pointers, for Lewiston.

Caitlin LaFountain paced Mt. Ararat with 18 points, Lindsey Cornelison added 12 and Nicole Bradstreet finished with 10.

 

GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 45, YARMOUTH 35: Maria Valente’s 18 points led Gray-NG (10-7) during a victory against the Clippers (4-13) in Yarmouth.

The Patriots ended the game on a 12-2 run.

Grace O’Donnell’s 10 points topped the Clippers.

 

FREEPORT 64, KENNEBUNK 35: Nina Davenport scored 24 points to lead the Falcons over the Rams at Freeport.

Ashley Richardson added 14 points for Freeport. Gabby Fogg led Kennebunk with 11 points, including three 3-pointers.
