PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A Pawtucket woman whose 4-year-old grandson ate crack cocaine by accident at her apartment has pleaded guilty.

WPRI-TV reports that Joanne Oliver appeared in District Court in Providence on Thursday and pleaded guilty to contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She had faced a more serious charge of cruelty to or neglect of a child.

Police say Oliver allowed a known drug user into her home in May 2012 and the boy ate some of his crack cocaine, thinking it was candy. The boy was taken to a hospital but wasn’t harmed.

Authorities say the boy’s father, Ryan Oliver, also was in the apartment at the time. He pleaded guilty in the case Monday, was sentenced to probation and ordered to have no contact with the child.
