WINSLOW — For the second year in a row the Wells wrestling team finished a strong second at the Western Class B regional meet, coming in 24 points behind Mountain Valley on Saturday at Winslow High School.

The Warriors tallied 128 points to the Falcons’ 152, with defending champion Fryeburg Academy in third with 121.5

Wells was led by individual champions Colin Sevigny and Michael Curtis, who each their second-straight regional crown. Sevigny pinned Mountain Valley’s Eddie Deroche 4:26 into their 138-pound title match, while Curtis pinned Andrew Doody Veilleux of Gardiner at 2:25 of the 195-pound final.

Isaac Desrcohers and Tommy Cryer were the Warriors’ other finalists, each losing close decisions to Mountain Valley wrestlers. Desrochers fell to Ethan Boucher 4-3 in the 120-pound final, while Cryer and Brandon Gill went into overtime before Gill won 6-2.

Wells’ Cullen Cummings (106 pounds), Caleb Chase (113) and Jacob Spofford (170) all won consolation finals, Charlie Taylor was fourth at 220.

Both Wells and Mountain Valley will send eight wrestlers to next Saturday’s state meet at Morse High School in Bath, where Camden Hills, which won Saturday’s Eastern Class B regional, will look to defend it’s state crown.
