A series of minor crashes on Interstate 295 north of Portland snarled morning traffic.

Maine State Police reported multiple crashes Tuesday morning, two in Yarmouth and one in Falmouth, that led to delays in southbound traffic.

The first crash was reported at 7:30 a.m. when a car slid off the highway into the median at Exit 17 southbound in Yarmouth. A few minutes later, as traffic slowed, a car rear-ended another just north of the first crash.

At about 8:30 a.m., another rear-end collision happened near Exit 10 in Falmouth, backing up traffic more than half a mile. The traffic was still snarled near Exit 10 as of 9:30 a.m., but it had returned to normal by 10:30 a.m.
