The Falmouth boys and girls took the team victories at Saturday’s Western Maine Conference Indoor Track Championship, in both cases besting York. The competition included more than a dozen schools.

Lake Region coach Mark Snow expressed satisfaction with his kids’ performances, even though the team is at its smallest since he and Dana Caron took the helm. “We are very happy with how our kids did this season,” Snow said.

Snow praised a number of athletes, including seniors Amy Angelone and Casey Heath, and freshmen Meghan Boos, Addie Blais and Joey Beaulieu. He also emphasized Kate Hall’s continuing dominance. Hall set league records in her events (long jump, 200m, and 55m) this year, and is currently ranked no. 1 in New England in all three.

Hall will be LRHS’s only individual competitor at States, but is a “heavy favorite” to win her events. “That would qualify her for the New England meet,” Snow said, “where she hopes to earn a title or two.” Hall has already qualified for the National indoor meet.

Freeport head coach Brian Berkemeyer was pleased with his squad season as well. “The season’s been good. Our goal is to try to get as many state qualifiers as possible, in as many events as possible. I think we have about 15 kids who’ve qualified.”

Berkemeyer highlighted several members of his roster, including Harry Stivers, “a standout in the 400 and 200,” and Bethanie Knighton, winner of the 400m, who “had a great night.”

Both the Falcons boys and girls won their 4×200 relays, which Berkemeyer called “a great way to end the meet.” Additionally, Berkemeyer spoke optimistically about States, conveying confidence in his teams’ chances to place in events, among them the girls 4×800.
