A truck driver suffered a serious cut to his head and northbound traffic on Interstate 95 in Benton is slowed after two tractor-trailer trucks collided early Wednesday afternoon, police said.
The traffic disruption was expected to continue through this evening’s commute.
A truck driven by Charles Colpitts, 63, of Canada, was attempting to merge into traffic from the breakdown lane near mile marker 135 when he was rear-ended by a second truck driven by Larry Edwards, 44, of Pennsylvania, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Edwards’ truck ended up in the median and he was taken to MaineGeneral Hospital in Waterville, then flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, according to a news release. His injury was not considered life-threatening.
Northbound traffic is reduced to one lane while the trucks are removed. Both trucks remained upright and didn’t spill their loads, according to McCausland.
