ARUNDEL — Thomas F. Farda, 69, of Arundel died Friday, Feb. 14, 2014 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

He was born Jan. 26, 1945 in Utica, N.Y., the second of seven sons of Fredrick and Marie (Duprey) Farda.

He was educated in schools there and attended Frankfort High School.

Tom came to Maine in 1964. In Gorham, on March 17, 1968, he took Rita L. Fields to be his wife and their marriage lasted 44 years until her passing June 22, 2011.

Tom had worked various truck driving jobs, one being Dead River Oil Company. In 2010, Tom retired from West Point Pepperell (Stevens) as a hydraulics mechanic, when the plant closed. While there, he served some time as union president. He was a member of the Eagles, Aerie 804 in Biddeford.

He enjoyed spending time at the lake, fishing and golfing. Duchess, his bulldog, was his pride and joy. Tom was an avid Yankee fan, his wife an avid Red Sox fan. It made for a very interesting baseball season.

Tom was predeceased by: his loving wife Rita; a son, Donald in 1992; his parents; and two brothers, Francis and Fred.

He is survived by: four sons, Michael E. Farda and his wife Michelle of Lyman, Thomas J. Farda and his fiancée Gardi Smith of Buxton, Joseph F. Farda and his companion Lisa Rietan of Dayton, and David S. Farda of Arundel; three grandchildren, Courtney Farda, Emily Farda and Nicholas Boutin; two great-granddaughters, Victoria White and Zaniyah Shay; four brothers, James Farda of Floyd, N.Y., Richard Farda of Lee Center, N.Y., John Farda of Rome, N.Y., and Robert Farda and his wife Michele of Whitesboro, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at Hope Memorial Chapel 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005, followed by a memorial service at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Scarborough Memorial Cemetery in the spring. To share condolences with the family, visit www.hopememorial.com.
