Portland Police said they believe that a person found dead on Congress Street Tuesday committed suicide.

The person, who has not been identified, lived locally, and investigators are attempting to contact family to notify them, said Lt. James Sweatt.

The body was found on Congress Street near Maine Medical Center about 8 a.m., Sweatt said.

There was no sign of a struggle, he said, and police are searching for witnesses and checking security camera footage in the surrounding area.

The scene of the death is near the Maine Medical Center parking garage, Sweatt said.
