ACTON — Isabel “Issy” Mary Young, 83, of Acton, passed peacefully at her home on Feb. 16, 2014.

Issy was born in Boston on Feb. 10, 1931, to John Flannery and Mary Feyler.

She graduated from Hyde Park High School in 1941.

Issy married the love of her life, Joseph Young, in 1953.

She worked as a bookkeeper for numerous nursing homes for 30 years in Brookline, Mass. before moving to Loon Pond in 1977.

Issy was well known around town for her service as treasurer for the Acton Rescue, poll worker and president of the Loon Pond Association.

She was an extraordinary woman who was passionate about her career and volunteer work. Issy enjoyed traveling and being surrounded by close friends. She was a woman of many words and will be remembered for her quick wit and brash humor. Everyone who met Issy will remember her for her reference to “boy toys” and ability to add warmth to any situation.

Issy was preceded in death by: her husband, Joseph Young; her mother, Mary Feyler; and her father, John Flannery.

Issy is survived by an abundance of loved ones.

Per Issy’s wishes, there will be no formal services but a burial and celebration of life will be scheduled for the spring. In lieu of flowers, Isabel asks that donations be made to the Wentworth Home Health Care and Hospice, 121 Broadway, Suite 117, Dover, NH 03820; or the Acton Fire and Rescue Department, c/o Harold Smith, 655 East Shore Drive, Acton, ME 04001.
