PORTLAND (AP) — The University of Maine System Board of Trustees is deciding whether all veterans should get in-state tuition rates.

The UMaine System Board of Trustees Executive Committee is expected to vote on the measure Friday that would offer more students who served in the military lower priced tuition in Maine.

The system currently offers in-state rates to active duty members, veterans using the GI Bill and members of the Maine National Guard. But officials say there were 19 veterans enrolled in the UMaine system last year that didn’t receive in-state tuition rates.

Student Veterans of America says 20 states have laws providing in-state tuition to veterans and universities in eight states have schools that have similar policies.
