Gorham blanks Yarmouth in boys’ hockey finale

Jordan Ward and Shawn Sullivan scored first-period goals and Dylan Turner added a late insurance goal to lead Gorham to a 3-0 win over Yarmouth on the final day of the boys’ hockey regular season Friday.

Justin Broy stopped 21 shots for Gorham (15-3), which clinched the No. 1 seed for the Western Class B playoffs. Yarmouth (11-6-1) will be the No. 4 seed and will host a quarterfinal against Kennebunk at 7:10 p.m. Tuesday.

BASKETBALL: Reserved seating tickets for Saturday night’s Western Class A championship games go on sale at 9 a.m. at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

Tickets are $9 for reserved seats, $8 for adult general admission, and $5 for students and seniors. Tickets can only be bought cash only. There’s a 10-ticket limit per person.

MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP: Graeme McDowell advanced to the quarterfinals at Dove Mountain in Arizona, winning the last two holes against Hunter Mahan to force OT, making a 20-foot par putt to stay in the match on the 20th hole and winning with a birdie on 21.

LPGA: Anna Nordqvist had an even-par 72 at rainy LPGA Thailand, leaving her a stroke ahead after two rounds.

TENNIS

RIO OPEN: Second-seeded David Ferrer will meet unseeded Alexandr Dolgopolov in the semifinals in Rio de Janeiro after defeating Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

DELRAY BEACH OPEN: Steve Johnson defeated No. 6 seed Feliciano Lopez 6-3, 6-2 at Delray Beach, Fla., and will face fellow American Kevin Anderson in the semifinals.

DUBAI CHAMPIONSHIPS: Alize Cornet upset Serena Williams 6-4, 6-4 and will face Venus Williams in the finals.
