LACONIA, N.H. (AP) — Firefighters are searching a six-unit apartment building in Laconia, N.H., where one person may still be unaccounted for after a late night fire.

Laconia Fire Chief Kenneth Erickson told WMUR-TV that he was fairly confident one person was still inside the building, and crews continued to search through the rubble Wednesday.

Authorities believe the fire started on the back porch around 11 p.m. Tuesday. By Wednesday morning, the roof had burned away and the second floor had caved in. One neighbor, Max Kopacz, said he ran over before firefighters arrived and knocked on doors to alert residents.

It’s unclear how many people were displaced.
