A Colorado gaming company will supply table games and 70 slot machines to the operator of the ferry that’s scheduled to start running between Portland and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, on May 1.
Century Casinos Inc., based in Colorado Springs, Colo., announced Thursday that it has a casino concession agreement with Nova Star Cruises Ltd. The agreement expires in 2020.
Century Casinos, which describes itself as the worldwide market leader in operating casinos on cruise vessels, will supply both electronic and conventional table games. The slot machines will be installed in April, when the ferry arrives in Boston, the vessel’s first call in North America.
The ferry, called the Nova Star, is scheduled to begin its journey to the region from Singapore in about two weeks.
Nova Star Cruises is owned by STM Quest, a joint venture involving Quest Navigation Inc. of Eliot and ST Marine Ltd. of Singapore. Its vessel has capacity for 1,215 passengers and 336 vehicles.
Nova Scotia’s government has committed to spending $21 million in Canadian dollars to subsidize the service over seven years, including $2 million for a surety bond required by the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission.
