SANFORD — Bruce L. Purdy, 56, of Sanford, let the hands of this world go for the hands of the next on Feb. 26, 2014. Bruce lost his long, courageous battle with diabetes.

Bruce was born March 13, 1957 in Revere, Mass., a son of the late Laurence and Phyllis Purdy.

Bruce was educated in Peabody, Mass., graduating from Peabody High School.

In 1978, he married Lorraine Poulin. Sadly, Bruce was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lorraine.

Bruce loyally served CVS Pharmacies and their customers for more than 25 years in numerous locations as shift manager.

Those who knew Bruce knew of his passion and love for his family, friends, community service, muscle cars and rock and roll music.

Bruce is survived by: two sons, Brian Purdy of Sanford, and Eric Purdy, daughter-in-law, Elizabeth, and his wonderful grandson, Andrew, all of Biddeford.

Bruce is also survived by: his fiancée, Juanita Carter and a new extended family of Perry; three brothers and three sisters, David of South Carolina, Mark of Derry, N.H., Dale of Bradford, Mass., Donna Phenes of Florida, Lisa Dempsey of Groveland, Mass. and Beth Neil of Lakeville, Mass.; numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; as well as many loved nieces and nephews.

Bruce was greatly admired and will be sadly missed.

A funeral service for Bruce will take place on Tuesday at noon at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale. Visiting hours will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. Burial will be in the spring at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford. Condolences may be expressed at www.blackfuneralhomes.com.
