It’s believed as many as 16,000 Russian troops have deployed to Crimea, while Ukrainian forces are amassing on both sides of an isthmus separating the Crimean peninsula from the mainland. U.S. officials traveling to Kiev say Washington is warily watching to see whether Russia will try to advance beyond Crimea.
