MEDFORD, Mass. — A fast start and consistent scoring punch propelled Tufts University to the second round of the NCAA Division III women’s basketball tournament as the Jumbos defeated St. Joseph’s 66-43 Friday night.

Tufts (27-1) opened a 20-12 lead midway through the first half, then rolled off 13 straight points late in the half to go into halftime ahead 38-21. The Jumbos started the second half with an 8-0 run to stretch their lead to 25.

Sophomore center Morgan Cahill was a bright spot for St. Joseph’s (23-6), finishing with 22 points against the tall and talented Tufts front line.
