WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Colin Gay had four hits with two doubles and two runs scored to help Maine beat Northwestern in collegiate baseball, 8-4.

Scott Heath added two hits and two runs, and Shane Bussey drove in two.

Bussey’s run-scoring double in the fourth gave Maine a 4-3 lead. Steven Adam singled home Gay in the fifth, and the Black Bears made it 7-3 with two more runs in the sixth.

Tommy Lawrence got the win, going six innings and giving up four earned runs on 10 hits.

With the victory, Maine is 6-12 while Northwestern falls to 3-12.

USM 10, SUNY CORTLAND 9: John Carey and Forrest Chadwick each went 2 for 4 with a double and three RBI, and the Huskies (3-0) held off the Red Dragons (9-3) at Auburndale, Fla.

Keyed by Chadwick’s two-run double, Southern Maine scored five times in the fifth inning, sending 10 batters to the plate while opening a 6-1 lead.

Cortland got four runs in the eighth to pull within 10-9, but Chadwick pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.

ST. JOSEPH’S 7, UMASS-DARTMOUTH 5: Tim Beaudette hit a go-ahead two-run single and Alex Markakis scored on a passed ball as the Monks (7-3) scored three times in the top of the ninth to rally past the Corsairs (0-1) at Winter Haven, Fla.

UMass-Dartmouth had taken a 5-4 lead in the eighth when Alex Newton hit an RBI triple and scored on Tyler Andrade’s single.

Taylor Reuillard was 3 for 5 with two runs scored and an RBI for St. Joseph’s.

BOWDOIN 15, NEW JERSEY CITY 8: Chad Martin went 3 for 4 with two doubles and five RBI, and the Polar Bears (5-0) used a seven-run fourth to pull away from the Gothic Knights (1-8) at Winter Haven, Fla.

John Lefeber reached base five times for Bowdoin, going 2 for 2 with a homer, two walks and a hit by pitch. Kyle LeBlanc had an inside-the-park homer.

SOFTBALL

MIAMI (OHIO) 11, MAINE 5: The RedHawks (7-10) snapped a 4-all tie with three runs in the fifth, and Bree Lipscomb put it away with a grand slam in the sixth as the Black Bears (6-7) dropped their first game of the day at Clearwater, Fla.

EmJ Fogel and Rachel Harvey each had two hits and an RBI for Maine. Shelby Obert drove in two with a double.

BOSTON U. 10, MAINE 2: Brittany Clendenny was 4 for 4 with two runs scored and four RBI to pace the Eagles (9-9) in a six-inning loss for the Black Bears.

Maddie Moore’s double in the sixth accounted for both Maine runs.

ST. JOSEPH’S 6, NORTH PARK 4: Lindsay Moore and Melissa Mayhew each went 2 for 3 with two RBI, and the Monks (6-2) scored four times in the fifth to rally past North Park in their first game of the day at Fort Myers, Fla.

Moore and Mayhew each hit RBI singles in the fifth to put St. Joseph’s up 4-3. Jennifer Murphy added a two-run single.

DREW 5, ST. JOSEPH’S 2: Antoinette Tovar singled home two as Drew used a five-run sixth to get by the Monks in their second game.

Theresa Hendrix had three hits and Danica Gleason was 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI for St. Joseph’s.

BOWDOIN 8, STEVENSON 4: Arianne Krul went 3 for 4 and scored two runs for the Polar Bears (4-2), who scored four runs in the fourth and never trailed in winning their first game of the day at Clermont, Fla.

MONMOUTH 4, BOWDOIN 3: In its second game of the day, Bowdoin outhit Monmouth 10-5, but the Fighting Scots (8-3) rode three first-inning runs to a win.
