Two teenagers became trapped inside a mangled automobile in Nobleboro on Monday morning while rescue crews tried to remove the boys from the wreckage.

Lt. Rand Maker of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said a 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck operated by 18-year-old Cody Beaucage of Jefferson was heading south on East Pond Road when he lost control on a curve. The pickup truck ‘fishtailed’ before going into a ditch and striking several large granite blocks. The truck rolled over and came to rest on its roof.

Police closed the road down for nearly four hours. It took a local contractor, who was using an excavator, along with members of the Nobleboro and Jefferson fire departments about an hour to remove Beaucage and 19-year-old Kenneth Snyder of Jefferson from the truck.

A 17-year-old juvenile, who was in the back seat of the truck, and Beaucage were treated for broken bones and internal injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

Snyder’s injuries were less serious.

Maker said it appears the crash was caused by speed and alcohol. Once the investigation is complete, the Sheriff’s Office will consult with the District Attorney’s Office to determine if criminal charges should be filed.
