Richard Poirier

SACO — Richard Paul Poirier, 69, formerly of Saco, passed away on March 15, 2014 at his home in The Villages, Lake Sumter, Fla., after a long battle with lung cancer, with his family by his side.

He was born in Biddeford, the son of Jean Paul and Eleanor (Harmon) Poirier.

He graduated from Biddeford High School in 1962 and joined the Army. He retired after 22 1/2 years as a master sergeant.

He attended The University of Southern Maine and received a teaching degree in mathematics.

He loved playing golf, tennis, racket ball, and pickle ball.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Jean Paul and Eleanor Harmon Poirier; one sister, Linda Belanger; and his beloved and faithful pet, Snoopy.

Survivors include: his loving wife, Doris; his son, Carl; his daughter, Judy Morneau and her husband Douglas; five grandchildren, Stephanie, Stephen and Sarah Poirier, and Alexandra and Kristen Morneau; his brothers, Ronald Poirier and his wife Pauline, Robert Poirier and his wife Gisele, Michael Poirier and his wife Karen and David Poirier and his wife Margo; his sister, Dorothy Jarry and her husband Lenny; and several nieces and nephews.

There will not be a funeral. He has made an anatomical donation to The University of Florida at Gainsville. Those who wish may make a donation to a lung cancer foundation in his name.
