Portland firefighters are cleaning up after a blaze at 38 Columbia Road in Portland on Monday.

Neighbors reported seeing smoke coming from the 2-1/2 story house around mid-morning.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire on the first floor, said Fire Chief Jerome LaMoria.

The department already had crews helping with a fire in Falmouth, so LaMoria ordered a third alarm to fight the Columbia Road fire, he said.

Nobody was injured. One person at home at the time got out safely.

A fire department investigation team is determining the cause and extent of damage. LaMoria said firefighters were still on the scene opening up walls and putting out hotspots at 10 a.m.
