SACO — Normand J. Cote, devoted brother, uncle and friend, met his Lord with open arms on March 23, 2014 at the Seal Rock Healthcare facility in Saco, after a long period of declining health.
Born on July 23, 1927, Normand spent many years as an educator. He taught and mentored many as a Brother of Christian Instruction. Later in life, he continued his teaching career in the public sector of education, eventually retiring from the school system in Old Saybrook, Conn.
Normand married his cherished wife, Aline Parenteau, in 1967. The following years together were happily spent exploring and developing real estate on the Maine coast. Their lakeside home in Cooper Mills was the frequent setting for many happy occasions and celebrations for close family and friends.
He will be remembered for his strong faith and beliefs. Normand led his life with integrity and kindness. His generosity touched many lives.
He was preceded in death by: his mother and father, Alcide and Florence (Audie) Cote; and his wife of many years, Aline (Parenteau) Cote.
He is survived by: six brothers and one sister, Raymond Cote of Biddeford, Dr. Roland Cote and wife Jeannette of Auburn, Albert Cote and wife Pauline of Saco, Gerard Cote and wife Annette of Lewiston, Dr. Andre Cote and wife Loretta Sue of Columbia, Mo., John Cote of Kezar Falls and Jeanne Robey and husband Joseph of Saco; and his close niece, Judy Lessard and husband Leo, who were so lovingly dedicated to Normand’s care and well being throughout his journey.
He also leaves behind numerous dearly loved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at Seal Rock Healthcare and Beacon Hospice for the kindness and compassion extended to Normand during his illness.
An 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at St. Joseph Church in Biddeford. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Whitefield later in the spring.
