A memorial service is scheduled to be held next week for Colby College student Griffin Metto, who died March 14 of a brief illness.
The memorial service will take place at 3 p.m. on April 4 at Lorimer Chapel.
Students are on spring break this week, and the service will be held once everyone is back on campus, officials said.
Metto, of Franklin, Mass., was a junior at the college, majoring in classics and government, according to his obituary. He was elected to Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society, and was news editor of the Colby Echo, the college newspaper.
Students were notified of Metto’s death on March 14 through a campuswide email from President William D. Adams, according to Colby spokesman Stephen Collins.
Flags were lowered at the Waterville campus in Metto’s memory.
The Echo, Colby College’s student newspaper, released a special issue honoring its editor’s life, with peers, faculty and members of the community submitting messages remembering Metto.
Metto graduated from Franklin, Mass., High School in 2012, according to his obituary, enjoyed Roman history and Latin, and was a member of the Massachusetts State Latin Certamen team. He was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics and grew up participating in youth baseball and basketball in Franklin.
