OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Marjorie E. Garon, 88, of Old Orchard Beach, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

She was born in Dyer Brook on Dec. 5, 1925, a daughter of Cleo and Hazel (McLellen) McLaughlin.

She attended schools in Smyrna Mills and graduated from Old Orchard Beach High School, Class of 1945.

Marjorie was employed by Saco Lowell Shops for several years. She also worked for Old Orchard Beach High School as a secretary in the Guidance Department for 30 years.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing. She also liked to do embroidering and make quilts. Marjorie’s home was open for her family and friends where many special memories were made.

Marjorie volunteered for hospice and served as a board member at Edith Belle Libby Memorial Library in Old Orchard Beach. She also was a member of the Educational and Industrial Union.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Alec J. Garon Jr. in March of 2002; and two sisters, Janice Higgins and Shirley Mullen.

She is survived by: her son, John Garon and his wife Roberta of Port Charlotte, Fla.; her daughter, Mary Ann MacDougall and her husband Robert of Shapleigh; three grandchildren, Donald, Julie and Laura; five great-grandchildren, Jacob, Marcus, Summer, Benjamin and Autumn; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be on Saturday, March 29, 2014 from 9 a.m. to noon with a funeral service at noon at Cote Funeral Home, 87 James St., Saco. Burial will be in the spring in South Buxton Cemetery.
