DAYTON — Pauline Johnson Meserve, 92, of Gordon Road, passed away March 28, 2014 at the Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford.

She was born in Dayton July 10, 1921, the daughter of Paul and Alice Harnish Johnson.

Pauline attended schools in Dayton and was a graduate of Thornton Academy in Saco.

She later graduated from Gorham Normal School in 1939 and the University of Maine.

Pauline taught in Hollis and in a one-room schoolhouse in Dayton and then taught the third and fourth grades at Washington Street and Emery Schools in Biddeford for 27 years.

A longtime resident of Dayton, she enjoyed sewing, quilting reading and crossword puzzles.

Pauline was a member of the Saco Grange, the Goodwin’s Mills United Methodist Church and the Maine State Retired Teachers Association.

Pauline was preceded in death by: her husband, Clement.

Survivors include: two sons, Clement and his wife Merrilee and Eugene and his wife Valerie; two daughters, Margaret Wormwood and her husband Edmond and Sandra Meserve; seven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces; and a cat, Seymour.

Friends and relatives may call Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, 365 Main St. in Saco. A funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Goodwin’s Mills United Methodist Church. Rev. Dr. Deborah Hansen will officiate. Burial will follow at Goodwin’s Mills Cemetery.
