Press Herald/Telegram reporters honored for coverage of Boston Marathon bombing
Glenn Jordan and David Hench, reporters for the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram, earned a first-place award in The Associated Press Sports Editors annual writing contest for their coverage of the bombing near the finish line at the Boston Marathon.
The award was given in the breaking news category for newspapers with a daily circulation between 30,000-75,000. Jordan was in Boston and provided reports from near the finish line, while Hench added details from the office to provide a full report.
Also in the breaking news category, staff writers Mike Lowe and Ed Murphy received a fifth-place award for their coverage of the Portland Pirates announcing their move to Lewiston.
Outdoors writer Deirdre Fleming was also recognized in the beat writing category with a tie for sixth place, while the Maine Sunday Telegram was an honorable mention in the Sunday section category.
