Mickelson’s rested, recovered and ready to compete in upcoming Houston Open

Phil Mickelson says on his website that he’s recovered and ready to play in this week’s Houston Open.

The four-time major winner, who withdrew from last week’s Texas Open after pulling a muscle in his right side, said he’ll play in the $6.4 million event after two days of “light practice” at Augusta National, site of next week’s Masters.

Mickelson, who won the Houston Open in 2011, didn’t play in the pro-am Wednesday, which raised speculation he’d miss the tourney.

INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE: IOC president Thomas Bach offered his support for increasing the participation of female athletes from Saudi Arabia after meeting in Riyadh with Prince Nawaf Faisal Fahd bin Abdul-Aziz, president of the national Olympic committee in the Muslim country.

Saudi women are largely banned from participating in sports although under IOC pressure, the nation sent women to the Summer Olympics for the first time in 2012.

CUSTODY ISSUE: A woman engaged in a New York court fight with champion skier Bode Miller over custody of their 13-month-old son says she hopes they can work it out.

Sara McKenna discussed in an article posted this week on Cosmopolitan magazine’s website how she met Miller through an online dating agency and got pregnant before their relationship fell apart.

She said her hope is she and Miller can work together to give their son a “stable life.”
