In reference to Ed Rice’s March 30, Maine Voices column, “Wells High School Indian mascot a sign of disrespect”:

I remember Sanford’s change of mascot choice for their school as a result of the symposium of May 2010. I remember it because my daughter, then a junior at WHS, discussed it with me.

Sadly, as you well know, whether through “misguided tyranny of a handful of bull-headed adults,” or ingrained arrogance of those whispering in the aforementioned adults’ ears, nothing has changed here in the Wells area concerning a different mascot.

Now it’s 2014, and another of my children is graduating from WHS with the same onus. I’m hoping by the time my third child graduates from WHS, we will be free of this ignorant display of stupidity and disrespect.
