HAMPDEN — Maine State Police are investigating a car accident that killed two men late Sunday night in the Penobscot County town of Hampden.
Police spokesman Stephen McCausland said the driver of a sports utility vehicle made a wrong turn and started driving north in the southbound lane of Interstate 95 in Hampden.
That driver collided head on in the southbound lane with another vehicle. The impact of the collision killed both drivers whose names and ages were being withheld pending notification of their families.
Both southbound lanes had to be shut down and traffic was diverted at the Colebrook Road exit in Hampden. The crash took place around 7 p.m.
