A Pittston man has been charged after allegedly using a knife to threaten a neighbor he believed had stolen a chicken.

John White, 50, was arrested on a charge of terrorizing Thursday. He was held over the weekend at the Kennebec County jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail.

Maine State Police Lt. Aaron Hayden said troopers were called to Pinkham Road around 9 p.m. Thursday after White allegedly stopped his vehicle in front of his neighbor’s house and threatened to kill the man’s wife and children.

“The victim stated White pulled a large knife from his side and displayed it,” Hayden said.

The neighbor told police he picked up a large stick and, “told White to go home and sleep it off.”

White later sent threatening text messages to the neighbor and the neighbor’s wife, Hayden said.

“The text messages were accusing the victim of stealing one of White’s chickens,” Hayden said.

White, who has a lengthy criminal history that includes threatening and terrorizing, was arrested Friday morning after troopers consulted the Kennebec County District Attorney’s Office, Hayden said.
