I agree with the individual in South Portland who wrote that he thought it unfair to require folks of modest means to purchase health insurance (“Letter to the editor: Federal government intervention won’t help the uninsured,” March 27).

If our do-nothing Congress had even a bit of wisdom or the courage to act in opposition to their corporate owners, we would have a single-payer system or Medicare for everyone. We would then join the democratic world, not the corporate-owned country we live in.

Most legislation since 1980 has been an intellectual embarrassment.
