The 125-foot schooner Spirit of Massachusetts commutes down Commercial Street early Wednesday morning.
The ship was taken from the former Gowan Yard behind Becky’s Diner on a trailer under the Casco Bay Bridge and then across a large open expanse into the new Portland Yacht Services shipyard. The Spirit, owned by the Ocean Classroom Foundation, will be extensively restored at the shipyard.
The move began around 6 a.m. and utility workers were on hand to clear overhead wires.
