WINDHAM – On Saturday, April 26, Music with a Mission will welcome back Squid Jiggers to perform their unique blend of Celtic and maritime folk tunes, mashed up with a healthy dose of Maine humor at the North Windham Union Church.
The Squid Jiggers are a Maine-based folk duo composed of musician-entertainers Dave Rowe and Troy R. Bennett. They took their name from the A.R. Scammell song “Squid Jigging Ground,” which is a musical depiction of fishing for squid in the waters off Newfoundland. They combine their talents on guitar, bass, bodhran and tin whistles to lay down a thunderous musical base for their robust vocal harmonies.
This concert is the 13th in the “Music with a Mission” series sponsored by the North Windham Union Church. The church donates a portion of the proceeds to area nonprofits. The Squid Jiggers have chosen to support Habitat for Humanity with the community proceeds from their concert. Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland is committed to the development and uplifting of families and communities. To date they have completed more than 57 houses in Cumberland County. Their mission is to eliminate poverty housing in the Greater Portland area.
Tickets will be sold at the door and are $12 for adults, $10 for students & seniors, and $5 for children under 12. The box office opens at 6:15 p.m. and the doors will open at 6:30 p.m. The North Windham Union Church is located at 723 Roosevelt Trail in Windham.
