Sea Dogs game postponed by Binghamton weather

Wednesday’s game between the Portland Sea Dogs and Binghamton Mets was postponed because of unplayable weather conditions.

The game will be made up May 3 as part of a 12:05 p.m. doubleheader.

The Sea Dogs and Mets wrap up their series with a 6:35 p.m. game Thursday.

Portland will send right-hander Keith Couch (3-0, 2.20) to the mound against Mets right-hander Greg Peavey (0-1, 6.75).


PORSCHE GRAND PRIX: Alisa Kleybanova defeated third-seeded Petra Kvitova 6-2, 7-6 (3) in the first major upset at Stuttgart, Germany.

Kleybanova, ranked at No. 102, rallied from 5-3 down in the second set to beat her Czech opponent. It was the Russian’s first victory against a top-10 player since winning her battle against Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which kept her out between May 2011 and March 2012.

Earlier, Ana Ivanovic defeated Sabine Lisicki 6-1, 6-3 to send the Wimbledon finalist out in the first round.

BARCELONA OPEN: Second-seeded David Ferrer was ousted at Barcelona, Spain, by a Russian opponent for the second straight year, losing 6-4, 6-2 to 55th-ranked Teymuraz Gabashvili.

Also, Rafael Nadal struggled to beat Albert Ramos 7-6 (2), 6-4. Nadal eventually overcame his 103rd-ranked opponent to reach the third round, rebounding from a surprise loss to Ferrer in the Monte Carlo Masters quarterfinals.


NFL: The Buffalo Bills reached a settlement with fans who say the team sent them too many texts, agreeing to issue debit cards for the Bills store worth $58 to $75 each.

Along with the $2.5 million worth of cards, the Bills will pay $562,000 in legal fees under terms of a class action settlement.

Bills fan Jerry Wojcik of Tampa, Fla., brought the case in 2012 after signing up to get Bills alerts on his cellphone. He said the Bills routinely exceeded the promised limit of five messages per week, in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.

Arizona Cardinals inside linebacker Daryl Washington was sentenced to a year of supervised probation for assaulting a former girlfriend who is the mother of his daughter.

The 27-year-old pleaded guilty nearly a month ago in Maricopa County Superior Court to aggravated assault arising out of a May 1 argument. Authorities said Washington choked the woman and caused a fall that broke her right collarbone.


CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Karim Benzema scored in the 19th minute to give Real Madrid a 1-0 win over defending champion Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal at Madrid.

Madrid, which won the last of its nine European titles in 2002, has been knocked out of the semifinals for three straight years.

The second leg is Tuesday in Munich. Chelsea hosts the other semifinal next Wednesday following a 0-0 tie at Atletico Madrid this week.
