A 25-year-old Rumford woman who was shot and wounded by a Rumford police officer on March 18 has been arrested on a charge related to the incident.

Jessica Byrne was arrested Thursday in Rockland by Maine State Police on a warrant charging her with criminal threatening, a Class C felony, an Oxford County Jail official said Saturday.

Byrne is on supervised release from the Oxford County Jail.

The Maine Attorney General’s Office has said Byrne was shot by Rumford police Sgt. Tracey Higley after threatening suicide and trying to attack police officers with a knife.

The attorney general’s office is investigating the shooting, which is standard procedure. The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is also standard practice.
