SCARBOROUGH – An excited and justifiably proud group of Scarborough High School students are winging their way home this week after winning third place in their division at the national Academic Decathlon competition held in Hawaii this past weekend.

George Entwistle, superintendent of Scarborough schools, called the team’s accomplishment “very exciting.” The nine-member team earned a trip to the national competition after winning a 10th state title in a row in early March.

The Academic Decathlon is a team-based academic competition that spans a number of disciplines – including art, social studies, science, economics and more.

Each year the national association organizes the competition around a common theme, which this year was World War I. Teachers Shane Davis and Jon York lead the Scarborough High team.
