A Brunswick landlord was arrested Tuesday for allegedly threatening a 21-year-old female tenant with a loaded shotgun in front of her two young children.

Peter Davis, 57, has been charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and terrorizing, both Class C felonies punishable by up to five years in prison.

Deputy Police Chief Marc Hagan said the victim called police Tuesday to report the alleged incident at an apartment on Cumberland Street. The woman said Davis pointed a loaded gun at her face and said he was going to kill her, according to Hagan. The woman’s 3-month-old son and 18-month-old daughter were present during the confrontation.

One day earlier, Davis had called police to report that someone had burglarized his apartment, which is in the same building. On Tuesday morning, not long before Davis allegedly threatened his tenant, Hagan said Davis had called to check on the burglary investigation and was agitated about the lack of progress.

When police went to speak with Davis on Tuesday after the victim reported the incident, he resisted arrest and sustained injuries from fighting with police, Hagan said. Davis was taken to the hospital for treatment but later released. A search of Davis’ apartment uncovered a loaded shotgun that matched the description from the victim, as well as a rifle. The guns were seized.

Davis posted bail but was ordered not to have any contact with the victim. That could prove difficult, Hagan acknowledged, since he remains her landlord.

Davis is scheduled to appear in Cumberland County Superior Court on July 22. Hagan said he was not aware whether Davis had any prior criminal history.
