Wednesday, May 14: Osewantha Garden Club of South Portland will meet at the Weathervane Seafood Restaurant, 380 Gorham Road in South Portland, at 11 a.m. The business meeting will be followed by lunch and the program which will be presented by Tom Atwell, “The Maine Gardener,” on new annual plants for your garden and Locavore/Buy Local.

May 14: Wentworth School North Wing third-, fourth- and fifth-graders are sponsoring a Red Cross Blood Drive from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. at Scarborough High School.

May 15-18: The Southern Maine Coastal Classic Dog Show takes place 8 a.m.-5 p.m. each day at Wassamki Springs Campground, 56 Saco St. in Scarborough. Four days of American Kennel Club Conformation, Obedience, Rally Specialty shows. Junior showmanship, amateur owner-handlers and lots more. Spectators welcome. $4 per car each day. Saturday, May 17: From 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the U.S. Coast Guard base in South Portland, join the Coast Guard, Maine Marine Patrol, Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, and the Maine Association of Sea Kayak Guides & Instructors as they kick-off National Safe Boating Week. There will be tours of Coast Guard facilities and boats, boating safety seminars and displays, boating safety displays. Lunch will be available. Special events include a kayak rescue demo at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., flare demo held continuously starting at 11 a.m. Learn how to use flares and fire your expired ones. Life Jacket World Record Day 1 p.m. Bring your life jacket to join others around the globe as we gather to set a world record for the most life jackets worn. Events and times subject to change pending weather and operations.

Thursday, May 22: Date: South Portland/Cape Elizabeth TRIAD Educational Forum will hold an Southern Maine Agency on Aging Agewell Program from 2-3 p.m. in the training room of the Cape Elizabeth Fire Station, 2 Jordan Way. Free to all. Light refreshments to be served.

Saturday, May 24: People’s United Methodist Church, 310 Broadway, South Portland, holds a plant sale from 9 a.m. to noon. Perennials, annuals and vegetable plants available.

Saturday, May 31: The Scarborough Garden Club holds its 28th Annual Plant Sale, rain or shine, from 8-11 a.m. at the historic Hunnewell House on Black Point Road. Uncommon perennials as well as classic favorites will be available. The club accepts potted and labeled plant donations on Friday, May 30, from 8-11 a.m. Perennials, annuals, herbs and vegetable seedlings are accepted. Proceeds from the sale support a Scholarship Fund, Monthly Meals on Wheels flower arrangements, and many ongoing community programs.
