ORONO — Scott Heath and Shaun Coughlin combined on a four-hitter and Colin Gay went 3 for 4 with two RBI as the University of Maine clinched a berth in the America East baseball tournament with a 7-0 win Sunday over Albany.

Heath gave up three hits in four innings before Coughlin took over and limited the Great Danes (10-32, 5-16 America East) to one hit the rest of the way.

Maine (21-26, 8-10) took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first on Gay’s RBI double and run-producing singles by Heath and Brian Doran.

Sam Balzano’s RBI single helped the Black Bears stretch the lead to 5-0 in the fourth inning. Maine added two runs in the eighth, including an RBI single by Gay.

The Black Bears play Boston College on Tuesday at Goodall Park in Sanford before closing their regular season with three games against Maryland-Baltimore County on Friday and Saturday.
