WATERVILLE — A man was found dead at his home Friday in what state police are calling a “suspicious death” on Brooklyn Avenue.

Aurele Fecteau, 92, was found dead inside his home by a family member late Friday morning, according to Maine State Police Lt. Christopher Coleman.

Waterville police went to the home, on the corner of Brooklyn Avenue and Vose Street, and called state police for assistance based on what they saw, Coleman said. Coleman refused to give details about the death, but did say police are treating it as suspicious.

An autopsy at the Chief Medical Examiner Office in Augusta is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, and Coleman said a lot more will be known after the autopsy.

“Right now we’re doing several things. We’ve interviewed neighbors in the area and are interviewing family members now,” Coleman said. “We’re starting the scene processing and documentation.”

A news release from the Maine Department of Public Safety said police will be at the residence through the night.

Fecteau was a longtime resident of Waterville, Coleman said, and had retired from Scott Paper Co. in Winslow. He lived in the house alone.

Police are asking for the assistance of anyone who may have been in the area of Brooklyn Avenue and Vose Street the last few days and saw anything out of the ordinary.

“If you saw anything unusual or suspicious or something that didn’t seem right, give us a call,” Coleman said.
