PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — A federal defense bill contains funds to support a new generation of air refueling tankers at New Hampshire’s Pease Air National Guard.

The 12 KC-46A tankers would replace a current fleet of 1950s-era KC-135 tankers at Pease.

The bill funds the program, pending successful completion of an environmental impact study.

The funds were included in the Fiscal Year 2015 National Defense Authorization Act, approved last week by the Senate Armed Services Committee. Both Sens. Jeanne Shaheen and Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire are members.

The project at Pease is estimated to create 100 jobs.
