CHAPMAN — Maine State Police say a Presque Isle man has died in a traffic crash in Chapman.

Police say 42-year-old Johnathan Browning was driving his pickup truck north at about 6:45 p.m. Thursday when it went off the left side of the road and started skidding out of control. The truck then crossed the roadway to the right side of the road, struck a telephone pole and rolled onto its side. The pole snapped.

Police say Browning was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing but police think speed and a lack of seat belt use were factors.
