Police are searching for a St. Francis man suspected in the shooting death of his girlfriend Saturday morning.

The man, Jesse Marquis, 38, is being sought in connection with the shooting death of Amy Theriault, 31, according to Maine State Police.

Marquis, who was still at large late Saturday night, is armed and dangerous, state police said.

“State Police will maintain a presence throughout the night in St. Francis,” said Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

The shooting took place at a home at 754 Main St. in St. Francis, a small town in northern Aroostook County, McCausland said.

He said the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office received an emergency call at 5:45 a.m. reporting domestic violence at the house. Witnesses in the home told police they had seen Marquis leave the home and enter the woods behind the house with a rifle.

Police are searching for Marquis, who is described as 5-foot-7 and 150 pounds, with black hair and blue eyes. He was wearing bluejeans, a green hooded sweatshirt and a Cabela’s ball cap. He was last seen entering the woods on the south side of Route 161.

The U.S. Border Patrol and U.S. Customs and Border Protection are helping in the search.

State police have asked anyone who has seen Marquis or someone matching his description to call them at 532-5400 or the Aroostook County Crime Stoppers at 800-638-8477.
