A 21-year-old Standish man was critically injured Friday night in Gorham after driving his car off the road and crashing it into trees.

The driver, Cameron Morrissette, was unconscious, with what appeared to be “significant” head trauma, when police arrived at the scene, according to Lt. Christopher Sanborn of the Gorham police.

He said the accident occurred at about 10:45 p.m. when Morrissette was traveling west on Shaws Mill Road heading toward Standish. He said Morrissette appears to have lost control of his 2003 Suburu Forester and drove off the road.

When police arrived on scene, the car was on its side and resting on a tree, with Morrissette still in his vehicle, he said.

Morissette was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland. His condition Saturday night was not immediately available.

Gorham police are investigating the crash.
